The Byramjee Jeejeebhoy Medical College (BJMC), Ahmedabad is one of the largest (with 110 acres of land occupancy) and oldest (with 147 years of history) Medical College situated in the heritage city of Gujarat with good railway, road & air connectivity to all other cities and states.

Ahmedabad Medical School was established in 1871 and it became affiliated with the Civil Hospital in the city of Ahmedabad. The School had humble beginnings, starting with 14 students who pursued hospital assistant training. In 1879, Sir Byramjee Jeejeebhoy donated Rs.20,000/- and the school was renamed after him as B. J. Medical School. In 1951, The College was affiliated to Gujarat University for its undergraduate courses & in 1956 for the postgraduate courses. The Gujarat University took over the school, which today flourishes with other allied medical and paramedical institutions, including:

  • M. P. Shah Cancer Research Institute
  • TB Demonstration and Training Centre
  • Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre
  • U. N. Mehta Institute of Cardiology

The college offers undergraduate MBBS course to 250 students every year. Postgraduate M.D. courses in 15 branches of medicine, and M.S. courses in five branches of surgery, super specialty courses of D.M. in three branches, M.Ch in four branches, postgraduate diploma courses in 10 branches, and many other medical degrees for non-medical persons. It is a center for the National Board of Medical Examinations for various subjects. The alumni of the college are spreaded all over the world, providing premiere medical care. This hospital is one of the oldest, biggest and modern hospitals of India, treating about 6 to 6.5 lac outdoor patients, admitting 70,000 patients annually. It performs about 26,000 surgeries and 6500 deliveries per year.  There are some other institutions situated within the premises of the college like:
